Wight Mountain Red Funnel Cycle Team rider, took part in his first race of the season at Castle Combe UK
On Sunday 15th March 2015, Lee Rutland a WightMountain-Red Funnel Cycle Team rider, took part in his first race of the season at Castle Combe UK. It was a windy but dry day with over 60 riders competing in the Omega Castle Combe Circuit Category 4 race. The overall race duration was 30 minutes plus 2 laps of the famous UK Motorsport circuit. The race got off to a fast start with Lee sitting in the front of the Peloton for a few laps. There were a few early breakaways but the strong headwind along the back straight of the circuit proved too hard for anyone to maintain a solo effort, so a ‘Bunch Sprint’ was in order to complete the final lap. On the last corner, Lee attacked the Peloton from behind, surprising everyone, and managed to sustain an early lead to the finish only to be caught by the race winner by a bike’s length. Lee finished in 2nd place and gained 8 points on his race licence which means he only needs 4 more points to gain his Category 3 licence.
